Spatacus lived from 109 - 71 BC, dying at just 38 years old. He was a free man when he was born. Spartacus started off as a Thracian soldier. Records tell that he was an amazing military leader and knew what he was doing. He didn't enjoy being a soldier so he ran away. When he was captured by the Romans, he was sold into slavery and forced to train as a gladiator. Although he was forced to be a gladiator, he was extremely successful at what he did. To ensure that he or any other gladiators wouldn't esccape, they were locked up in gladiator school.
